  3. Know what, Hank? This time I’m just trying to watch SCANDAL without feeling guilty that I’m not doing something more educational with my time AND THERE YOU ARE ON HULU.

This is getting crazy. scishow, I’m very happy for you! But out of spite I am still going to watch my trashy TV.

(…and then probably some scishow but, you know…NERDS!)

I’m gonna say this every time it appears on my dash.

The only other italian american hero doesn’t have to be AN ABUSER OF WOMEN OK?

The only claim of her filing for divorce for ‘Mental Cruelty’ is on wikipedia and it’s a “citation needed” statement. I’m not saying that Joe wasn’t abusive, I’m just saying we need sources not internet shouting.

    The History Channel seems confident.

And according to interviews with DiMaggio’s son in a book, it gets much, much worse than “mental” cruelty:

The marriage had ground rules: DiMaggio had to approve all of her future films. Monroe was never to be semi-dressed. She had to break out of her “dumb blonde” typecasting — a point she agreed with. But she wasn’t to outshine him. When she did, he’d sleep in another bedroom and go days without speaking to her.

All of this began on their honeymoon, and in weeks, when DiMaggio felt he was losing control of her, he beat her more than once. Joe Jr. recalled being woken up one night by their fighting.

“I was asleep downstairs,” he said, “and I woke up to the sound of my father and Marilyn screaming … After a few minutes, I heard Marilyn race down the stairs and out the front door, and my father running after her. He caught up to her and grabbed her by the hair and sort of half-dragged her back to the house. She was trying to fight him off but couldn’t.

Of course… it could all be made up. Or dismissed by all the niceness he showed to her while trying to get her back after the divorce, or by paying for her funeral…

One of the reasons why Emma Watson is one of the best female role-models of our time. She’s so underrated.

This is one of the most inspirational stories ever.

    Oh. My. God.

    Is this a true story??

It is indeed. (x) And she’s written a fantastic piece about body image. (x)

holy shit I didnt know that

This is too amazing to NOT reblog, so inspiring.

    That is amazing.

JKR encouraged Evanna to be healthy because that’s what a person should do. Maybe she said that she would have to be healthy before she could possibly audition?

But this story has been taken as she got the role as a REWARD for her health. Not. True. JKR had nothing to do with Evanna’s casting and was only aware she was even up for it once she was cast. They sent her the name of the actress and JKR had as big of a surprise as anyone to see Evanna Lynch, her pen pal, written there. And immediately wrote Evanna a letter that began with “OH. MY. GOD.”

JKR herself told me this story. I believe it’s in the full published interview in the digital version of my book. (But I can’t remember if that is the case and can’t check where I am right now.)

If this story is why people get healthy, awesome. But it is not true and it takes a serious and earned and deserved victory away from Evanna by implying she didn’t do it primarily for reasons of her own health and wellness.
